Once upon a time...

Our liquid fairytale begins with a young woman named Sophia Whitney in Philadelphia, PA. One fateful day, Sophia, or as her friends call her Sophie, had her first mead. It was the first time she enjoyed the taste of alcohol. A fan of sweet, fizz-free drinks, Sophie felt she had finally found her one true drink. However, no bar, restaurant, beer distributor, or corner store had a mead that called her name.

So, she decided to make her own. And so, right before graduating from Temple University in 2023, Mermead was born. Sophie entered (and won prizes at!) several pitch competitions while still at Temple. This allowed her to take Mermead from dream to reality.

Now, Mermead is available all over Philly, so everyone can sip happily ever after. Mermead’s journey has just begun, so if you are interested in following along as we bring mead to the modern market subscribe to our Mead Feed and/or follow us on social media!
